Old video from Bihar shared as visuals of people blocking entry of BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh


A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the recent visuals from Uttar Pradesh where people are seeen blocking entry to BJP leaders in their village. In the wake of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022, this post is being shared on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of people blocking BJP election campaign in Uttar Pradesh.

Fact: The video shows Bihar’s Devpar village where people blocked entry to Kalyanpur constituency MLA and JDU leader Maheshwar Hazari. This incident took place while Maheshwar Hazari was passing through Devpar village to ask people to vote for him in the Bihar Assembly Elections in 2020. The video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE

On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, a video with similar visuals was found published on the ‘Navbharat Times’ news website on 20 October 2020. ‘Navbharat Times’ reported it as the visuals of people surrounding JDU leader and former Bihar Minister Maheshwar Hazari’s convoy in Samastipur district, Bihar.

When we searched for more details using these keywords, we found similar visuals in an article published by the ‘Aaj Tak’ news website on 19 October 2020. According to the details mentioned in the article, people of Devpar village in the Kalyanpur constituency surrounded JDU leader Maheshwar Hazari while he was passing through the village to ask for votes in the Bihar State Assembly Elections in 2020. Devpar villagers denied entry to Maheshwar Hazari and reportedly questioned about the development works he did in the past 10 years. Maheshwar Hazari got off the bike and urged people to explain their problems. While failing to cool down the people’s anger, Maheshwar Hazari returned from Devpar village. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had also tweeted this video on 19 October 2020. JDU leader Maheshwar Hazari is now presently working as the Deputy Speaker of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is related to an old election campaign in Bihar.
