A video of a little girl crying while she seems to console a baby is being shared online, claiming that both these children lost their mother in the recent Turkey earthquake in February 2023. The post claims that the little girl is pretending to breastfeed her brother to make him stop crying. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: After losing their mother in the Turkey earthquake, a little girl pretended to breastfeed her crying brother to comfort him.

Fact: This video was originally uploaded on TikTok by a user named ‘anelya.495′ on 26 November 2022. This was way before the earthquake hit Turkey on 6 February 2023. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of the Video’s Keyframes led us to a few other Facebook posts with the same video and similar claims. In one of those posts, a video contained a watermark of a TikTok user which read ‘anelya.495.’

We then searched on TikTok for anelya.495 and found the account. The same video in the viral post was uploaded by this account on TikTok on 26 November 2022.

The video’s description in Russian translates to ‘#children laughing.’ The elder child in the video is also seen in other videos which were uploaded on the same account. The viral post clearly misquotes this video from November 2022 as the visuals taken after the February 2023 earthquake that devastated Turkey & Syria.

To sum up, an old and unrelated video is shared falsely as a child pretending to breastfeed her brother after they lost their mother in the Turkey earthquake in February 2023.
