These visuals of a mob pelting stones in presence of police are related to an old incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad. A reverse image search of the viral visuals led us to a YouTube video, dated 01 January 2020. This video carried visuals of a Times of India report related to the viral visuals.
As per the description of the video, these visuals are related to CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad.
Taking a cue from the YouTube video, a Google search with relevant keywords, yielded the Times of India news report related to the Firozabad CAA protest, that reported the incident of a mob pelting stones in the presence of police. The archived version of this particular news article published an image of a civilian pelting stone, similar to a visual in the viral video.
Reporting this particular video, the article said ‘in the second video, the same group of civilians is found throwing stones towards Foolwali gully dominated by Muslims while police stand behind civilians. Moments later, cops are seen firing from their assault rifles.’
This establishes that the viral visuals are not related to the recent Delhi riots but are from CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh. Back then few internet users also shared the same visuals claiming them to be from UP. News articles related to the violence that erupted in light of CAA protests back then can be read here and here.
