Following the arrival of Super Typhoon Yagi, Asia’s most powerful storm of 2024 in Vietnam and China, a video featuring multiple clips has been circulating on social media (here, here, and here), claiming to show visuals related to the 2024 Typhoon Yagi in China. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: The video features the visuals of Typhoon Yagi (2024) in Hainan, China.
Fact: The video consists of multiple clips. Although we were unable to find credible sources for these video clips, they were all shared before the arrival of Super Typhoon Yagi. This indicates that these visuals are not related to the ongoing disaster in China. Hence, the claim made in the video is FALSE.
By performing a reverse image search on the video’s keyframes, we found that the visuals are not connected to Cyclone Yagi. We discovered that the video has been circulating on social media, potentially since July 2024, before the onset of Typhoon Yagi.

Additionally, we traced one of the clips featuring a child being rescued by a security person on a road back to a news flare article from June 2024. As per the report, “On June 30, at the entrance of a shopping mall in Dezhou, Shandong, a mother and daughter were knocked down by strong winds during a storm and could not get up. The security guard rushed into the rain and held them tightly, and together with passers-by, they sent the two to a safe place. The mall said that it had issued an honorary certificate to the security guard and rewarded him with 500 yuan.”

Another clip featuring a leaking and collapsed roof was included in Burmese and Chinese promotional videos from May 2024 and January 2024 respectively.

Another video clip showing people stranded on their bikes on the road was reported in a Chinese article published in June 2024. Similarly, another video of cars being swept away by floodwaters has been circulating since 2023.

Although we could not find credible sources for these video clips, they were all shared before the arrival of Super Typhoon Yagi. This indicates that these visuals are not related to the ongoing disaster in China (2024).
