Old Afghan news debate video is passed off as BJP leaders being beaten in TV debates

In the wake of the upcoming general elections in Uttar Pradesh, a social media post accompanying a video of television debate panelists entering into a fistfight is being widely circulated. The post claims that the video shows BJP leaders being thrashed in television debates.  Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of BJP panelists being thrashed in a TV debate.

Fact: The viral video actually shows a fistfight of two panelists in an Afghan news channel 1TV Kabul, and the incident happened in 2016. Further, there are no recent reports of BJP leaders getting into a brawl in television debates. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The video actually a fistfight that happened among the panelists during a television debate in Afghanistan. The video dates back to 2016. Reverse image search of the screenshots of the viral video led us to a news debate of an Afghan news channel called ‘1TV Kabul’.

The viral video is an excerpt of this news debate, in which at the end of the news debate, two of the panelists get into a brawl. With this, it is evident that the viral video has nothing to do with BJP or for that matter India.

Further, there are no recent reports of BJP leaders getting into a brawl in news debates. Recently, a few social media posts have gone viral with a similar claim alleging that BJP leaders are being chased or thrashed by people in states like Uttar Pradesh.
