No, this video doesn’t show Ambedkar statue being vandalised at Wayanad

On social media, a video of Ambedkar statue being vandalised by a person is being shared with the claim that the incident took place at Wayanad in Kerala. Let’s try to check the veracity of that claim.

Claim: Video of Ambedkar statue being vandalised at Wayanad.

Fact: The video shows the Ambedkar statue being destroyed at Nagapattinam in Tamilnadu. So, the claim is FALSE.

When searched on YouTube with the keywords “Ambedkar statue vandalised”, many search results were obtained. A search result among them carried the same video clip that was in the Facebook post. That video was uploaded by “Kanak News” on August 25, 2019. As per this video, the incident has taken place in Tamilnadu state.

When searched further, a news video of “BBC News Tamil” that covered about the incident was found and it corroborated that the incident has taken place at Nagapattinam in Tamilnadu.

To conclude, this video doesn’t show Ambedkar statue being vandalised at Wayanad. The incident took place in Nagapattinam of Tamilnadu.
