The Delhi Assembly election was held on 05 February 2025 and the results were declared on 08 February, with the BJP securing a clear victory with 48 seats, while AAP won 22 seats (here and here). Amid this, a video (here, here and here) went viral on social media showing a rally of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the post claimed that the video showed AIMIM leader Tahir Hussain’s procession after losing the recently concluded Delhi elections. Let’s find the truth behind this.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain held a procession after his defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

Fact: The video actually shows Tahir Hussain’s roadshow related to election campaign held on 03 February 2025, before the elections took place. Reports confirm that he was on custodial parole for campaigning in the Delhi election which ended on 03 February, making any post-election rally impossible. He is in jail in connection with the Delhi riots case. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

To find more details, we conducted a background study on AIMIM leader Tahir Hussain. He was formerly a councillor from AAP in Delhi but was suspended in 2020 after being accused in multiple cases related to the North-East Delhi riots. Hussain was arrested in connection with the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 riots. In December 2024, he joined the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and contested the Delhi Assembly elections from the Mustafabad constituency. He secured 33,474 votes, finishing behind BJP candidate Mohan Singh and AAP candidate Adeel Ahmed. Since he was in custody, multiple bail and parole requests were made to the Supreme Court to allow for the election campaign. According to reports, Hussain was granted six-day custodial parole from 29 January 2025 to 03 February 2025, for 12 hours daily (here and here). The Delhi election results were declared on 08 February, and the reports confirm (here and here) that his bail period ended on 03 February 2025. This makes it clear that no rally involving him could have taken place after the election results.

To verify the authenticity of the video, we conducted a reverse image search, which led us to the same video uploaded on X on 07 February 2025, a day before the election results were declared. The account owner was urging people to vote for him in the caption, specifically mentioning the Mustafabad and Okhla seats.

Further research led us to multiple similar videos, many of which were uploaded on the Facebook page of Tahir Hussain. He had posted photos and videos (here and here) of his roadshow rally on 03 February, two days before the election. Additionally, AIMIM Delhi President Shoaib Jamal also shared the video on the same date. Moreover, Bhartiya Saifi Samaj Youth (Kamruddin Saifi) streamed a live video on Facebook on 03 February 2025, which showed several similarities to the viral video.

A side-by-side comparison of the people in the viral video and the video posted on Tahir Hussain’s account related to his election campaign roadshow confirms that both videos are from the same event.

Further research led us to a report by ABP Live on Tahir Hussain’s roadshow. According to the report, AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain held a roadshow in Mustafabad on the last day of his custodial parole for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. During the event, he was emotional over his imprisonment and criticised AAP for neglecting Muslim voters. Positioning himself as a local candidate fighting for justice, he questioned whether he would be released after the elections and urged voters to support him against perceived injustice.

Additionally, several reports confirm (here and here)  that his bail period ended on 03 February 2025, which indicates that no procession or rally involving him could have taken place after the election results.

To sum up, the election roadshow rally of AIMIM Mustafabad candidate Tahir Hussain is shared as a procession held after his defeat in the election.
