A purported CCTV video (here, here, and here) claiming to show a man robbing a biker by hypnotizing him is viral on social media. It is being shared with a cautionary caption that this is ‘India’s biggest fraud.’ We fact-check this claim through this article.

An archived version of this post can be found here.

Claim: Video of a man performing a robbery by hypnotizing a biker.

Fact: This is a scripted video made by a Bangladeshi ‘digital creator’ named ‘Jim Ahmed,’ who posts scripted videos on his Facebook page called ‘Fakibaz Comedy.’ Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on a few of its keyframes. This search led us to multiple social media posts with the same video. A few of those videos (here, here) featured a watermark that reads ‘The Jim Ahmed.

Taking this as a hint, we then ran a keyword search on the internet and found the original version of this video on a Facebook page called ‘Fakibaz Comedy (archive link). This page contains a banner image, which is a collage of three pictures of a person named ‘Jim Ahmed.’ They uploaded this video on 23 January 2025.

According to the intro section of this page, ‘Jim Ahmed’ is a Bangladeshi Digital creator who uploads funny scripted videos to Facebook. He also has a YouTube page where he uploads similar comedy videos. He also uploaded the viral video on YouTube.

On 24 January 2025, Jim Ahmed posted a video on Facebook in which he said that he made the viral video and it was just a cautionary video that no one should take seriously.

On 25 January 2025, he uploaded another video on Facebook in which he said that people were stealing his video without giving him proper credit. This makes it clear that the viral video is just a scripted one made to bring awareness to such robberies and does not depict a real robbery that happened in India recently.

However, during our research, we found that the mainstream media reported many such incidents of robbers stealing valuables from strangers in the past. You can find these news reports here, here, and here

To sum up, a scripted video is shared as real CCTV footage of a hypnosis robbery in India.
