A social media post claiming that the Indian army’s Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh has been arrested on charges of sedition is being widely shared. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh has been arrested on charges of sedition.

Fact: Indian Army through a press statement called out the news as an attempt of state-sponsored malicious disinformation campaign by Pakistan & rejected the claim of the arrest. Even though a tweet, the Indian Army said the same. Also, Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh was seen addressing a press meet on 01 October 2020. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Google search with the keyword ‘Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh’ led us to a press statement by the Indian Army dated 01 October 2020 through which they cleared the air surrounding the news of the arrest of the Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh. The press note called the news as an attempt of state-sponsored malicious disinformation campaign by Pakistan and rejected the claim of his arrest.

The Indian army also through a tweet rejected the news and asked people not to fall prey for such misinformation.

Moreover, Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh addressed a press meet on 01 October 2020 regarding the Secretary of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) working in close cooperation with the three service headquarters. With all this, we can conclude that Lt.Gen.Taranjit Singh has not been arrested.
