Fact: The incident shown in the video is related to a family dispute in Konra village of Barmer district, Rajasthan. Man in the video was tied to a tree, beaten up and forced to drink urine in the public over an alleged illicit relationship. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On reverse image search of screenshots in the video, similar photo of the tortured man shown in the video found in an article published by ‘Hindustan Times’ news website on ‘31 July 2020’. In the article, it is mentioned that a man in Rajasthan’s Barmer district was tied to a tree, beaten up and forced to drink urine in the public over an alleged illicit relationship. Police told the media that the victim and the accused belong to the same community and due to this, the victim did not approach the police to lodge a complaint.
When a twitter user shared this video with a claim ‘dalit man tortured by a dominant caste mob in Rajasthan’, Barmer police responded to the tweet and clarified that incident shown in the video is of a family dispute. They clarified that this incident was falsely given a communal colour. In the tweet, they also informed that 6 accused were arrested.
FACTLY was able to access the FIR copy filed with the Chohtan Police Station and found that the incident took plae on 25 July 2020. The FIR also doesn’t mention any Dalit angle to the incident.
To sum it up, an incident related to a family dispute in Rajasthan was shared as a Dalit man tortured and forced to drink urine by dominant caste people.
