Image of an artwork passed off as a picture of ‘Kissing Rock’ romantic spot in California

A photo is being shared on social media claiming it as a picture of one of the most romantic spots in the United States. This post shared a photo of two mountain cliffs resembling a romantic couple. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Picture of the romantic mountain cliffs located on the shoreline of the Pacific Grove, California.

Fact: The picture shared in the post shows an artwork created by an artist named Durgasrinivas Yarramshetty. This image was created by editing a mountain cliff picture captured near the Koh Phi Phi Island in Thailand. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the photo shared in the post, the same picture was found published on the ‘Fine Art America’ website. The description of the photo states, “The kissing rock in Pacific Grove, California is a photograph by Durgasrinivas Yarramsetty which was uploaded on April 25th, 2017”. The photo shows an artwork created by an artist named Durgasrinivas Yarramsetty. The portfolio of Durgasrinivas Yarramsetty can be seen here. The same photo was published with a similar description on the ‘Pixels’ website.   

When we searched for further details, it is found that this artwork was created by editing the mountain cliffs located near the Koh Phi Phi Island in Thailand.

The original pictures of the ‘Kissing Rocks’ romantic spot located along the coastline of Pacific Grove California can be seen here and here. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the image shared in the post is an artwork created by editing the picture of a mountain cliff in Thailand.

To sum it up, an image of artwork is falsely shared as the picture of ‘Kissing Rock’ romantic spot in California.
