A video is being shared on social media with a claim that it shows how hospital staff is killing patients. It is being shared in the context of the current COVID-19 situation in the country. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be found here.

Claim: Video shows how hospital staff is killing patients in India currently.

Fact: Except for the first clip in the posted video, none of the other two clips are related to any recent incident. The first clip shows a woman complaining about the death of her father due to the negligence of a hospital in Karnataka. The second clip is being shared by Bangladesh social media users at least since May 2020 whereas the last clip is related to an incident that happened at a hospital in Patiala in August 2020. So, both the clips in the posted video, which show patients allegedly being beaten are old & unrelated. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The posted video has three different clips. Let us try to find out the context of each clip separately.

Clip 1:

The logo of ‘NewsFirst Kannada’ can be seen in the video. So, when we searched on their YouTube channel, the same video clip of a woman complaining about the death of her father due to the negligence of the hospital was found. Several videos on the same incident can be seen on the ‘NewsFirst Kannada’ YouTube channel. An article with the title – ‘Neglect of treatment at Oxford Hospital: Allegation’ (in Kannada) was published by ‘Prajavani’ on the same incident in Karnataka. The other two clips in the posted video were not found related to this incident.

Clip 2:

We could not find the exact context of this clip. But the same video was found to be shared with several claims on Facebook by users from Bangladesh in May 2020. Some of those old posts can be seen here and here. So, it can be concluded that the video is old and not related to the current COVID-19 situation.

Clip 3:

The third clip in the posted video is related to an incident that happened at a private hospital in Patiala in August 2020. According to ‘The Tribune’ article, two hospital staff members reportedly thrashed a person suffering from depression. The police have arrested the staff who were involved in the incident. So, it is an old incident from Patiala and not related to the other clips in the posted video.

To sum it up, except for one clip where a woman can be seen complaining about the negligence of the hospital, the other two clips in the posted video are old and unrelated.
