Former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb hasn’t criticised PM Narendra Modi after his resignation

A post is being shared on social media claiming that BJP leader and Tripura former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has criticised Narendra Modi’s leadership after his resignation. According to the post, Biplab Kumar Deb said that the country is being ruined under the leadership of Narendra Modi. On 15 May 2022, Manik Saha took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura, a day after Biplab Kumar Deb resigned from the post. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: BJP leader and former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has criticised Narendra Modi’s leadership hours after his resignation.

Fact:  Biplab Kumar Deb hasn’t made any such statement against Narendra Modi. After he resigned from the Tripura Chief Minister’s post, Biplab Kumar Deb responded to the media that the party is above all. Deb proclaimed himself as a dedicated party worker and exuded hope that he will be able to do justice to whatever responsibility he was entrusted with by the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Biplab Kumar Deb through a tweet congratulated Manik Saha on taking oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura and expressed his full support for the development of Tripura under his leadership. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched to check whether the former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has made any such statement against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we could not find any news report on this news. After submitting his resignation, Biplab Kumar Deb interacted with the media and said that the party is above all. Speaking to the media, Biplab Kumar Deb said, “The party [BJP] is above all. I have worked for the party under the leadership and direction of PM Modi. I have tried to do justice to the people of Tripura as the head of the party’s state unit and as CM. I have tried to ensure peace, development and steer the state out of the Covid crisis”. He further added, “Everything has a time frame. We work in that time frame. Wherever I am sent, be it CM or some other post, Biplab Deb can fit in everywhere”.

Speaking about the BJP’s decision to replace the Chief Minister ahead of the 2023 Tripura Elections, Biplab Kumar Deb said, “Now, the BJP wants that the party is strengthened, and for that, a party worker like me is needed…It is only if the party is strong that, we will win the elections and subsequently, form the government in the state. After that, of course, a Chief Minister will be chosen”. After submitting his resignation, Biplab Kumar Deb through a tweet thanked the BJP’s central leadership and the people of Tripura for giving him the opportunity to serve Tripura as Chief Minister.

On 15 May 2022, Biplab Kumar Deb made a tweet congratulating Manik Saha on taking oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura. Biplab Kumar Deb also expressed full support to the development of Tripura under Manik Saha’s leadership. Although a few BJP leaders from the Deb’s cabinet were expressing their anger over the resignation of Biplab Kumar Deb, neither Deb nor any other BJP leader in Tripura has criticised Narendra Modi’s leadership.

To sum it up, former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb hasn’t criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his resignation.
