A social media post accompanying a news report related to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at a US airport is being widely circulated as if it is related to a recent incident. Through this article, let’s fact-check the veracity of the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent news of Shah Rukh Khan being detained at an airport in US

Fact: This is an old news report, and it dates back to August 2016, when Shah Rukh Khan was detained at Los Angeles International airport. Later, the US ambassador to India apologised for the detention. Khan was detained couple of times earlier in 2012 & 2009. However, there are no reports of him being detained in any other country. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

This is an old news report, and it dates back to August 2016. The viral video carries the logo of ‘News 24’. Taking a cue from this, a YouTube search with relevant keywords yielded the original news report of News 24, which reported the news about Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at Los Angeles International airport.

News articles that reported the detention back then can be read here and here. Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to express his disappointment, back then. Later, the US ambassador to India and the U.S. Department of State apologised for the detention.

However, this is not the first time Khan being detained at airports in foreign countries. Earlier, in 2009 & 2012, Khan was detained at American airports. Since 2016, there is no news of Shahrukh Khan being detained in any foreign country. Thus the viral video is related to an old incident.
