A recent social media post (here, here, and here) claims that Dr. Y.V. Reddy, former RBI Governor, listed around 28 people who allegedly fled the country after bank robberies, in his book, Advice and Dissent: My Life in Public Service. It also suggests that 2004-2014 was a peak period for such crimes and quotes Dr Reddy as saying the Gandhi family’s wealth significantly harmed the economy. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

The archive version of the video can be found here.

Claim: Former RBI Governor Dr. Y.V. Reddy, in his book, named businessmen who robbed banks with the aid of Congress.

Fact: Dr. Y.V. Reddy’s 2017 memoir, Advice, and Dissent: My Life in Public Service, reflects on his tenure as RBI Governor and his role in economic policy and financial stability. It does not make any mention of the list of 28 individuals allegedly involved in bank robberies with the aid of those in the Congress. The book highlights Reddy’s experiences, including his leadership of the Fourteenth Finance Commission. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

After thoroughly reviewing the book (Advice and Dissent: My Life in Public Service), we found no reference to the 28 individuals alleged to be involved in bank robberies, as claimed in the viral post. The content of the book does not address these claims but instead focuses on different aspects of Dr. Y.V. Reddy’s career and experiences.

The book published in 2017, is a memoir by Dr. Y.V. Reddy that reflects on his tenure as RBI Governor. It offers detailed insights into India’s economic policy, the challenges of maintaining financial stability, and the balance between government and central bank roles.

Additionally, the book provides a comprehensive account of Reddy’s childhood, family life, career journey, and his significant role as the chairman of the Fourteenth Finance Commission, which he led in 2013.

Earlier, Factly debunked a different claim related to the book. You can read about that here.

To sum up, Dr. Y.V. Reddy’s 2017 memoir, Advice, and Dissent: My Life in Public Service, does not mention the 28 individuals allegedly involved in bank robberies with the aid of those in the Congress.
