A video is being shared on social media claiming that a massive fire explosion took place at a sweet shop in Mangalore city of Karnataka. In the post, it is claimed that 24 people died in this accident. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Fire explosion at a sweet shop in Mangalore.
Fact: Video shared in the post is the edited version of two unrelated accidents that took place at different locations. While one part of the video shows a fire accident at a godown in Patna during 2018, the other part of the video shows an injured person of the fire explosion in a sweet shop at Manglaur in Uttarakhand. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
Clip-1:
On reverse image search, similar visuals of the first thirty seconds shown in the video were found in a YouTube video posted by the ‘India Today Social’ channel on ‘09 June 2018’. In the description of the video, it is mentioned as the visuals of the fire explosion at a Gas Godown in Patna, Bihar. Showing similar visuals, ‘Live Hindustan’ news channel also reported the same information. ‘Times of India’ news website article about this accident can be read here.
Clip-2:
On reverse image search, the same video was found in a ‘Hindustani Reporter’ YouTube channel. ‘Hindustani Reporter’ claims it as the visuals of fire explosion at a sweet shop in Manglaur, Uttrakhand. On searching with the keywords ‘fire accident at a sweet shop in Manglaur’, we found many articles and news reports about this accident. They can be seen here, here and here.
On observing carefully, we could notice that this building is same as the one in the posted video. This accident took place on ‘07 November 2020’, and it is reported that 13 people were injured in the accident.
From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is an edited version of the two different videos and it has nothing to do with Mangalore city in Karnataka.
