A post is being shared on social media with a graphic that has images of Rishi Runak and Manmohan Singh. The Hindi quote on the graphic translates to ‘ A Prime Minister like Manmohan Singh is needed to give right direction, improve the condition and the weak falling Economy of India.- Rishi Sunak.’ The graphic contains the logo of the Hindi news daily Dainik Bhaskar. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Dainik Bhasker graphic on UK PM Rishi Sunak praising former Indian PM Manmohan Singh.

Fact: This is a morphed version of a graphic posted on Twitter by Dainik Bhaskar. The original graphic contains the words ‘Chidambaram – Tharoor’s advice, PM should be a minority in India too. BJP – Have you forgotten Manmohan Singh’. The article linked to this tweet is about the war of words between the BJP and Congress leaders in the context of Rishi Sunak being elected the Prime Minister of the UK. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The graphic in the viral post has the logo of Dainik Bhaskar implying that it is reported by them. We searched the internet with relevant keywords to find if Rishi Sunak has said India needs a PM like Manmohan Singh to improve the failing economy. However, we could not find any relevant news reports regarding the same. Upon reverse image search of the post’s image, we found a tweet from Dainik Bhaskar containing the same image but with different text.

The text on the image reads, ‘Chidambaram – Tharoor’s advice, PM should be a minority in India too. BJP – have you forgotten Manmohan Singh.’ The tweet also contains a link to an article published by Dainik Bhaskar.

Rishi Sunak was elected the Prime Minister of the UK on 25 October 2022. In this context, a war of words broke between the leaders of BJP and the Congress party, and Dainik Bhaskar’s article linked in the tweet is about the same. A news report by The Hindu on the same can be read here.  The graphic in the viral post is an edited version of the original graphic tweeted by Dainik Bhaskar. It falsely attributes the statement about Manmohan Singh to Rishi Sunak which he never made.

To sum up, an edited Dainik Bhaskar thumbnail is being shared as UK PM Rishi Sunak praising former Indian PM Manmohan Singh.
