This tweet about PM Modi attributed to Manmohan Singh is from a fan page account

A social media post claiming that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he failed as a leader is being shared widely. The post also questions when other Heads of State didn’t cry, why did Modi cry. Manmohan Singh is claimed to have said, ‘India needs vaccine and not your (Modi) tears, please do something or resign’. This post is being shared in the context of Prime Minister Narendra Modi getting emotional while virtually reviewing the COVID-19 situation in Kashi with doctors and frontline workers. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Manmohan Singh’s tweet criticising PM Modi on COVID-19 crisis.

Fact: The tweet on PM Modi was made from a fan Account of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh does not hold an official account on Twitter. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched for the tweet made from @PManmohansingh twitter handle, we found the exact same tweet that was mentioned in the post. However, in the description of the Twitter handle, it has been clearly mentioned that the account is a fan Account of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Earlier when few similar tweets were falsely attributed to Manmohan Singh, Saral Patel, National Convener of Congress Social Media Department tweeted that both Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi do not hold an account on Twitter, and when they decide to come on Twitter, they will have a verified Twitter account. He urged people to not follow fake accounts.

To sum it up, this tweet about PM Modi’s failure being attributed to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is actually from his fan page account.
