‘Drone attack on neighbours for loud music’ is fake news

A post is being widely shared on Facebook with a claim that a person attacked his neighbours with fireworks using a drone for playing loud music. Not only Facebook users, even news outlets like India Today (archived version) and Republic World (archived version) have also published the same on their websites. Let’s try to analyze the claim made in the post.

Claim: A man attacked his neighbours with fireworks via drone for playing loud music.

Fact: The incident in the video is not real. Albert (who shot the video) told BBC that it is a planned stunt video made by him with the help of his friends. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.  

When looked for more information on the incident by searching on Google with the keywords ‘Fireworks Drone Attack’, a BBC article on this issue can be found in the search results. According to the BBC article, the incident in the video is not real. It was a planned stunt video shot by Albert along with his friends. Talking to BBC, Albert said that many people know that he edits all the videos he posts on social media. Also, the behind-the-scenes photo in the BBC article shows Albert with his friends, who were running from the fireworks in the video.

The viral video was first uploaded by Albert on July 14 on his Instagram account. Albert wrote nothing about attacking the neighbours for loud music; he wrote in the description that he attacked his friends for not inviting him to party.

To sum it up, ‘Fireworks-drone attack on neighbours for loud music’ is fake news. It was a planned stunt video.
