Congress is contesting more than 420 seats, not 230

A post is going viral on Facebook which claims that the Congress party is contesting only 230 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats and hence it is not contesting to form the government. Let’s try to analyze the claim made in the post.

Claim: Congress is contesting only 230 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. Hence it is not contesting to form the government.

Fact: As per the official website of the Congress party, the Congress has already announced candidates for more than 420 Lok Sabha constituencies. Hence the claim is FALSE.

When one visits the Congress’s official website, the list of candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is found. When one goes through that list, it is clear that the Congress has announced candidates for 424 Lok Sabha seats so far.

To sum it up, the Congress party is contesting in more than 420 Lok Sabha seats and not 230.
