A post accompanied by a video clip of Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav is being shared on social media. The post description in Hindi translates to ‘One million job promise = reversed; we will fulfil the promise of providing 10 lakh jobs when we become the Chief Minister, now we are the Deputy Chief Minister.’ Let’s fact-check the claims through this article.

Claim: Bihar’s new Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has reneged on his old poll promise of providing ten lakh jobs.

Fact: This is a trimmed clip from an interview that he gave to Zee News after he assumed office as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. In the full interview, he says, ‘we will fulfil our promise of providing 10 Lakh Govt. jobs…CM spoke to me, and he is earnest about this issue; this will be done for the people once the trust vote finishes.’ Even though Tejashwi Yadav says that their promise of providing 10 Lakh jobs will be fulfilled, the post claims otherwise. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

The video shared in the post contains the logo of Zee News; with this hint, we searched on the internet for the full video and found an interview of Tejashwi Yadav on Zee News’s website, which is 11 minutes and 39 seconds long.

Answering the interviewer’s question on the RJD’s promise of providing 10 lakh jobs, he said, ‘we will fulfil our promise of providing 10 Lakh Govt. jobs.’ He further said, ‘when we made the promise, we said it would be fulfilled when we become the Chief Minister, but right now, I am the Deputy Chief Minister.’ This is where the video clip shared the viral post ends. But in the full version of the video, we can see him saying ‘…CM spoke to me, and he is earnest about this issue; this will be done for the people once the trust vote is finished…’ He said that everyone is very serious about this issue and it does not make any difference whether the promise is fulfilled by him or CM Nitish Kumar.

By using a trimmed version of this interview, the viral post is trying to show that Tejashwi Yadav is backing off from his promise of providing 10 Lakh jobs to the state of Bihar. But, in the full interview, we can see that he did not back off, but said it would be fulfilled. A shorter version of the same interview was uploaded to the Youtube channel of Zee News, and it can be watched here.

To summarise, a trimmed version of Tejashwi Yadav’s interview is shared to spread a false narrative that he reneged on his old poll promise of ten lakh jobs.
