A disturbing video is circulating on social media (here, here), showing the dead bodies of several children and a woman lying on the floor of a house, soaked in blood. The video is being shared with the claim that thieves killed an entire family in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, after finding nothing to steal. The video is also being shared with the claim that members of the Bajrang Dal murdered a Muslim family in UP. We have also received several queries on our WhatsApp tipline (+91 92470 52470), asking us to verify whether this video is indeed from Uttar Pradesh, India. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows dead bodies of children and a woman killed by thieves in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, after finding nothing to steal.

Fact: The video is not from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. It shows a 2024 incident from Muzaffargarh district in Punjab, Pakistan, where a man named Sajjad killed his wife and seven children. Pakistani media reported that he was under extreme financial stress and committed the murders because he could not afford to feed his family. The Uttar Pradesh Police confirmed the video is from Pakistan and arrested three people for circulating it to incite communal tension. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to several social media posts from April 2024 (here, here) featuring the same video. These posts claimed the incident took place in Mudwala, Alipur tehsil, Muzaffargarh district, Punjab, Pakistan.

Based on clues from social media posts, we searched using relevant keywords and found several Pakistani local media reports from April 2024 featuring the same video as the viral clip (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the incident took place in the Midwala area under Sadar Alipur police station in Muzaffargarh district, Punjab province. A man named Sajjad, reportedly a labourer, killed his 42-year-old wife and seven children, four daughters and three sons aged between eight months and 10 years, using an axe. In these reports, police said the suspect confessed to the crime, stating he committed the murders because he could not afford to feed his children. It was also mentioned that Sajjad was mentally disturbed due to financial constraints and frequently quarrelled with his wife.

We also found an X post dated 24 July 2025 by the official handle of Uttar Pradesh Police, where they dismissed the claim that ‘Bajrang Dal men entered the homes of people from the Muslim community and killed them’ as misleading. The police clarified that the video is from an incident that took place in Muzaffargarh, Pakistan, in 2024. They also informed that three individuals had been arrested for allegedly conspiring to spread communal tension and violence in western Uttar Pradesh by circulating the misleading video.

Speaking to BOOM, Sanjay Kumar Verma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Muzaffarnagar, confirmed that the viral video is from Pakistan and has no connection to India.

To sum up, an April 2024 mass murder video from Muzaffargarh, Pakistan, is shared as an incident from Uttar Pradesh, India.
