A post going viral on social media (here, here, and here) shows a reply allegedly from Donald Trump labelling Rahul Gandhi as a ‘Soros agent’ in response to Gandhi’s congratulatory post following Trump’s presidential election victory. Trump further criticized Gandhi, stating that those who ‘betray their own country’ and align with ‘anti-India elements like George Soros’ cannot genuinely support America or his vision. Let’s verify the truth behind the post in this article.

Claim: Image shows Donald Trump’s tweet calling Rahul Gandhi a “Soros agent” in response to Gandhi’s congratulatory post on his win in the U.S. presidential elections.

Fact: This viral tweet was not posted by Donald Trump. The response came from the account “@thedonaldtrumph,” which is a parody account that uses a misspelled version of Trump’s name. We found that this account is a “Fan Account” for the “47th President of the United States,” managed by @AshwiniSahaya. The official X handle for Donald Trump is @realDonaldTrump. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A Google search using relevant keywords found no credible reports linking Trump to such statements about Gandhi. Analysis of the viral image showed the response came from the account “@thedonaldtrumph,” which uses a misspelt version of Trump’s name.

The official X handle for Donald Trump is @realDonaldTrump.

We searched for the X profile “@thedonaldtrumph” and found it to be a parody account, described as a “Fan Account” for the “47th President of the United States,” managed by user @AshwiniSahaya.

We found the X post (archive link) claiming that Trump called Rahul Gandhi a “Soros agent” on the parody account from 06 November 2024.

The admin of the parody account @thedonaldtrumph, identified as ‘Ashwini Shrivastava’ (@AshwiniSahaya), confirmed in an X post (archive link) on 06 November 2024, that he manages the account. He also addressed claims that the BJP IT Cell runs the account, stating, “I’m not part of the IT Cell.”

However, Rahul Gandhi tweeted on the X platform wishing Trump and also sent letters to both Donald Trump, congratulating him on his election victory, and to Kamala Harris, praising her spirited presidential election campaign (here and here).

To sum up, an X post from a parody account was shared falsely claiming that Donald Trump called Rahul Gandhi a ‘Soros Agent’ in response to his congratulatory tweet.
