A video showing a few persons with plastic glasses, apparently awaiting an alcohol serving, has seen significant circulation on social media. Social media users are sharing this video with the claim that this event took place at the Delhi Chalo farmers’ protest in 2024. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: The video shows alcohol distribution at the farmers’ protest in 2024.

Fact: The video in question actually originates from 2021 and does not have any connection with the Delhi Chalo farmers’ protest of 2024. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To uncover the true origin of this video, a reverse image search was conducted on a few keyframes from the viral video using Google. This led to the discovery of several Facebook posts (here, here, and here) dating back to 2021 that contained the same video.

One such video was shared by a user named ‘Sukhvir Singh Virk,’ who described the event as one that took place at the Baba Rodu Shah Mela (fair)(here, here and here) in Punjab, where devotees offer liquor as ‘prasad’ (sacred food).

In 2021, Boomlive had a conversation with an independent journalist named Sandeep Singh, who had visited the location. According to him, the locals confirmed that the viral video was indeed filmed at this Mela.

Hence, it is clear that the viral video from 2021, shot at the Baba Rode Shah Mela, bears no connection to the Delhi Chalo farmers’ protest of 2024.

To sum up, a video filmed at the Baba Rodu Shah Mela in 2021 is being falsely attributed to the 2024 Delhi Chalo farmers’ protest.
