A video showing water being sprayed on two-wheeler commuters is being circulated on social media (here, here, and here) with a claim that Churu in Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 52°C on 24 May 2024. Let’s verify the authenticity of the claim through this article.

Claim: Visuals of water being sprayed on two-wheeler commuters as Churu Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 52°C on 24 May 2024.

Fact: The incident in the viral video is not from Rajasthan. The same video was uploaded on a Pakistani YouTube news channel ‘DawnNews’, on 30 May 2018, indicating that the incident was from Karachi. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

A reverse image search of the key frames from the viral video has led us to several social media posts that uploaded the same video in 2019 (here and here). Based on this information, it can be understood that the incident shown in the viral video is not recent.

On the bottom right corner of the viral video, a logo of a Pakistani newspaper, ‘The Dawn’ was found. A search on their YouTube channel with specific keywords led us to a similar video posted on 30 May 2018, titled “Karachi walon ka garmi se bura haal”, indicating that the video is from Karachi.

A comparison between the visuals of the viral video and the video published by “The Dawn” can be seen below.

Furthermore, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, the maximum temperature recorded in Churu on 24 May 2024 is 44.8°C.
