An old video from Bangladesh is falsely being linked to West Bengal with a communal angle.

A video (here and here) shows a mob violently punching windows of a car glass in an attempt to break it open is doing the rounds on social media. The video filmed by a man inside the car shows him crying along with a little girl and a woman. It is being claimed that this horrific incident happened recently after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, and it is being implied that it shows a Hindu family being attacked by a Muslim mob and people from the TMC. We will fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: This video shows a Muslim mob and the TMC party workers attacking a Hindu family in West Bengal.

Fact: This video is from Bangladesh not West Bengal. Also, the incident reportedly does not involve communal angle. This incident took place in February 2024 when a family was attacked by the staff of Green Aranya Park in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on a few keyframes belonging to the viral video. This search led us to news reports (here, here, and here) that contained the same video.

This incident reportedly happened in the Green Aranya Park in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh District in February 2024.

As per the news reports (here and here), the person filming the video is Shahjahan Mia, who, along with his wife and children, visited the Green Aranya Park in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. He argued with the park staff over being unable to get into a swing ride. This escalated to a point where Shahjahan and his family were attacked. The viral video was shot by Shahjahan Mia during the attack.

Shahjahan later filed a police complaint at the Bhaluka Model Police Station, and three of the accused were arrested by the police. This makes it amply clear that the video has nothing to with either India or West Bengal.

To sum up, an old and unrelated video from Bangladesh is falsely shared with a communal angle linking it to West Bengal.
