A viral photo on social media (here, here, and here) claims that there is a “Muslim Doctors Association (MDA)” operating in India, and wondered what would the seculars say if there was a Hindu Doctors Association. Let’s verify the authenticity of this claim through this article.
Claim: The photo shows doctors from the Muslim Doctors Association in India.
Fact: The viral photo actually shows a group of doctors at an event of the Muslim Doctors Association in the UK. This event was held on 21 September 2019 at Chaophraya Thai Restaurant in Birmingham, titled “Launch of Midlands/North Network.” The image has no connection with India, and the association is based in the UK. Further, there is also a Hindu Medical Association in the UK, which connects and supports Hindu healthcare professionals. Therefore, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
A Google keyword search led us to the official website of the Muslim Doctors Association (MDA). It revealed that the “Muslim Doctors Association & Allied Health Professionals CIC” is an award-winning non-profit organization operating in the UK since 2004. Based in London, it works nationally to support Muslim, minority ethnic, and marginalized communities. Their mission is to promote physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being within these communities across the UK.
A Google lens search of the viral image led us to a Facebook post of MDA posted on 29 September 2019 which matches with the viral image and captioned, “Thank you for everyone who attended our first Midlands event in Birmingham. It was a great social opportunity to network. We look forward to seeing you at our next gathering – the annual dinner. Further details will follow.” From this, it is clear that the event was organized in Birmingham, UK and not in India.
Further, during our investigation, we also found that there is a Hindu Medical Association in the UK, which connects and supports Hindu healthcare professionals. This group unites doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers under the principles of Hinduism, providing a moral and ethical framework for their practice.
To sum up, an old picture of a Muslim Doctors Association event in Birmingham is misleadingly shared as if it is from India. There is also a Hindu Medical Association in the UK.
