A post with the following description is being shared on social media – ‘5-year-old was raped in Dubai…Within 15 minutes of this rape incident, the judiciary ordered the police to shoot the rapist in public view‘. The post is accompanied by a video in which a man is executed, and his dead body is later hanged in public. Let’s verify these claims via this article.
Claim: The judiciary of Dubai has ordered that a rapist be executed within 15 minutes of the incident. The video in the post shows the execution of the rapist.
Fact: The video belongs to an execution of a Yemeni man that occurred in 2017. Reportedly, he was executed on the charges of raping and killing a 5-year-old girl. Since a video from Yemen is being falsely shared as if it is from Dubai, and the trial took more than two years, the post is MISLEADING.
After performing a reverse image search on Yandex with the screenshots of the posted video, we were led to a 2017 news report by ‘The Sun’. Its title reads – ‘Sick paedo who raped and killed a four-year-old girl is shot dead and HUNG from a crane in chilling public execution in Yemen.’
The images in the report show the rape convict lying facedown on a red cloth, a policeman firing a gun from behind, and his corpse hanging from a crane which matches the visuals from the video.
Reportedly, a man named Hussein Abdullah Al-Saket abducted a five-year-old girl on 09 November 2015, raped, murdered, and buried the lifeless body in a deserted area. He was publicly executed on 14 August 2017 at Tahrir Square in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. Other reports on this incident can be read here, here, and here. With all this evidence, we can conclude that an old video from 2017 of an incident from Yemen is being falsely shared as from Dubai executing a man within 15 minutes of rape.
To sum it up, an old execution video of a rape accused in Yemen is shared as an incident in Dubai, and the trial took more than two years and not 15 minutes.
