Fact: The man arrested in the viral video is not Indian. The video is from June 2023, and shows a Bangladeshi migrant Salauddin being arrested for the rape and murder of a 27-year-old Polish hotel worker on the Greek island of Kos. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to a report by the Greek City Times, published on 22 June 2023, featuring the same viral video. According to the report, the man seen in the viral clip had been arrested for the rape and murder of a 27-year-old Polish woman who worked at a hotel on the Greek island of Kos.
We also found several news reports (here and here) on this incident, but none mentioned an Indian immigrant being involved. Instead, multiple reports identified the man as a 32-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant named Salauddin S.
According to a report in the Dhaka Tribune, a 27-year-old woman went missing on 12 June 2023. Her body was later found on 18 June 2023, and the cause of death was determined to be strangulation. The local police stated that Salauddin’s roommate assisted them in the investigation.
To sum up, an old 2023 video of a Bangladeshi migrant’s arrest for a Polish woman’s murder is misrepresented as an Indian migrant.
