The Waqf Amendment Bill was recently passed by both houses of India’s Parliament. The Lok Sabha approved the bill on 02 April 2025 after a nearly 12-hour debate, with 288 members voting in favour and 232 against. The Rajya Sabha subsequently passed the bill in the early hours of 04 April 2025 following a 12-hour discussion, with 128 votes in favour and 95 against. Amid this, a video is circulating on social media (here, here, and here), claiming to show AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi crying in Parliament over the bill. Another video (here and here) claims that Asaduddin Owaisi is seen laughing after the waqf amendment bill is passed. Let’s verify these claims through this article.
Video 1:

Claim: The video shows AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi crying in Parliament over the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Fact: The viral video is unrelated to the recent 2025 debate in Parliament on the Waqf Amendment Bill. It dates back to 07 August 2024, during a parliamentary session where Owaisi was seen adjusting his glasses and rubbing his eyes. Additionally, in the recent session, he wore white coloured clothes, whereas in the viral video, he was dressed in blue. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to an extended version of the video on Sansad TV, titled “LS | Rajesh Ranjan Alias Pappu Yadav’s Remarks | The Finance (No.2) Bill, 2024 | 07 August 2024.” In this video, Asaduddin Owaisi can be seen seated behind Congress MP Pappu Yadav.
At the 4:32 timestamp, Owaisi can be seen taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes, the same visuals shown in the viral clip. However, he does not appear emotional or in tears during Yadav’s remarks.
We found a post on AIMIM’s official Facebook page, shared on 07 August 2024. The post includes a clip showing Owaisi wearing the same clothes as seen in the viral video while speaking in Parliament.

We also reviewed a video of a recent parliamentary session on The Waqf Amendment Bill. Upon careful analysis, Owaisi was seen wearing white coloured clothes in the session, whereas in the viral video, he was dressed in blue.
Video 2:

Claim: Video of AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and others laughing after Lok Sabha passes the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
Fact: The video dates back to 29 January 2025 and shows ruling and opposition members engaging in casual conversation after the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) cleared the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Therefore, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video led us to the same video (archived link), which was shared by Brij Lal, BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, on Facebook on 29 January 2025. He shared the video with the description: “Today, on 29-01-2025, after the JPC cleared the ‘Waqf Amendment Bill-2024’ ruling and opposition members were seen drinking tea, laughing, and joking.”

A video depicting similar scenes was also shared by news agencies such as ANI and PTI on 29 January 2025. According to media reports, the footage shows members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which is reviewing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, gathered over tea following the passage of the draft bill. Among those present were Asaduddin Owaisi and other committee members, including JPC Chairman MP Jagadambika Pal. Several other news articles published on 29 January 2025 also reported the same scenes featured in the viral video and can be accessed here and here.
To sum it up, old, unrelated videos are being falsely shared with the claim that they show Asaduddin Owaisi crying and laughing after the passage of the Waqf Bill in Parliament.
Note: This article was updated on 08 April 2025 to include the second claim and revised title.
