Claim: Banks will remain shut for 11 days in March 2021.

Fact: On the RBI website, five holidays are listed in addition to Saturdays (second and fourth) and Sundays in March 2021. But all the five holidays are not listed in all the regional offices. While 05 March 2021 is listed as a holiday only at Aizawl, 22 and 30 March 2021 are listed as holidays only at Patna. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

On looking at the Holidays calendar on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) website, it can be observed that five holidays are listed, in addition to Saturdays (second and fourth) and Sundays. But it can be seen that all the five holidays are not listed in all the regional offices. In fact, not even one regional office has all the listed five holidays. While 05 March 2021 is listed as a holiday only at Aizawl, 22 and 30 March 2021 are listed as holidays only at Patna.

It should be noted that, in addition to the holidays,  ‘the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine unions, gave a call for a two-day strike from March 15 to protest against the proposed privatisation of two state-owned lenders’.

To sum it up, all the 11 holidays in March 2021 do not apply to all the banks in all the States.
