A video (here and here) allegedly featuring former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan dancing in a studio to the viral Bollywood song ‘Tauba Tauba’ is doing the rounds on social media. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Viral video shows Muttiah Muralitharan dancing to ‘Tauba Tauba.’
Fact: The person featured in this video is not Muttiah Muralitharan; he is an Instagram influencer named Kiran Jopale. He is a dance influencer. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we checked Muttiah Muralitharan’s social media accounts but did not find any such video on any of his social media accounts (here and here).
We then performed a reverse image search online, which led us to the original video uploaded by an Instagram influencer named ‘Kiran Jopale.’
He is a dance influencer who uploads covers of various popular songs on his Instagram. Kiran uploaded this video on 22 July 2024. You can find a comparison between Kiran and Muttiah Muralitharan in the following collage.
To sum up, a video of a dance influencer is falsely being shared as Muttiah Muralitharan performing to ‘Tauba Tauba.’
