A viral video (here, here, and here) allegedly shows a bus that fell into a canal recently, which resulted in the death of 10 people, including children. As per the claim made in the video, this bus was travelling to the Kumbha Mela. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: This video shows a deadly accident of a bus traveling to Kumbh Mela 2025.

Fact: The video shows a November 2024 bus accident that took place in Pakistan, not India. This bus was returning from a congregation in Raiwind when it fell into a drain near Lahore. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on a few keyframes from the viral video. This search led us to a few social media posts (here, here, and here) that contained videos depicting the same incident. These posts were from November 2024, which described this incident as a Bus accident in Pakistan (the bus was returning from Raiwind.) This makes it clear that the video predates the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, which started on 13 January 2025.

Taking this as a hint, we performed a keyword search and found many news reports (here, here, here, and here) on this incident from November 2024. As per these reports, a bus returning from an Islamic religious congregation (Tabligi Ijtema) in Raiwind, Pakistan, fell into a drain in Lahore.

This incident took place on 3 November 2024 reportedly (here and here) due to overspeeding. “The incident occurred as the bus was en route to Kot Addu after the congregation’s concluding prayers. Among the injured, 15 were transported to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Raiwind, and one passenger with more serious injuries was shifted to General Hospital. Thirteen others received first aid on-site.,” the Express Tribune reported.

Additionally, we performed a keyword search to check whether such an accident had recently happened in India. This search led us to news reports (here and here) of a bus accident that took place in Gujarat on 2 February 2025. As reported by ETV Bharat, “… seven persons were killed and several others injured-15 of them critically-when a private bus carrying pilgrims on a trip to various religious places fell into a deep gorge in the western state’s Dang district early Sunday morning. Police officials said the accident took place at 4.15 am when the bus driver lost control over the wheels near the Saputara hill station.” Some reports stated that this bus was carrying pilgrims returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela.

To sum up, this video predates the ongoing Maha Kumbha Mela and shows a bus accident that took place in Pakistan in November 2024.
