A video of UP CM Yogi Adityanath saying ‘Muslims have the first right to the resources of our country’ is doing the rounds on social media. Further in the video, he can be seen saying, ‘Are you trying to divide the country in the name of minority and majority?’ We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Yogi Adityanath said that Muslims have the first right to the resources of India.

Fact: This is a clipped video of Yogi Adityanath’s interview with ANI. In the original video, he criticised the Congress party and quoted former PM of India, Manmohan Singh. Yogi claimed that Manmohan Singh said that Muslims have the first right to the resources of India. The portion where he speaks about Manmohan Singh was removed and shared as if he himself made that statement. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

After observing the ‘Rajasthan Patrika’ logo on the video, we searched the internet with relevant keywords to check the veracity of the viral claim. This search led us to the original video posted by ‘RajasthanPatrikaTV’ on YouTube. The video’s caption, translated into English, reads ‘Lok Sabha Election 2024: CM Yogi targets Congress, says ‘are you trying to divide the country.’ This makes it clear that his remarks were aimed at the Congress party.

With a subsequent search on the internet with refined keywords, we found the original full-length interview of Yogi-Adityanath uploaded by the ‘ANI’ on 23 April 2024. The title of this video reads, ‘CM Yogi echoes PM Modi’s remark, blames Congress for creating divide b/w Muslims, non-Muslims.’ In the interview, Yogi was seen criticising the Congress party on their old ‘eradicate poverty’ policy.

The words he was seen speaking in the viral video appear from the 4:13 mark when he says in Hindi, translated to English, ‘ Muslims have the first right to the resources of our country.’ Are you trying to divide the country in the name of Muslims and Non-Muslims-Majority and Minority?’ But the viral video just contains this portion, leaving the context behind this line. In the original video, he quoted former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. At around 4:06 mark, he said, ‘When Dr Manmohan Singh was the PM of India, on whose signals/instructions did he say that ‘ Muslims have the first right to the resources of our Country.’ The viral video omits Yogi quoting Manmohan Singh and makes it look like Yogi himself made this statement.

To sum up, the viral video of Yogi Adityanath saying, ‘Muslims have the first right to the resources of our country,’ is edited.
