The Delhi Assembly elections for all 70 constituencies were held on 05 February 2025, with results awaited on 08 February (here and here). In this context, a video (here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing a woman blackening the faces of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena on a billboard while another woman is seen hitting the same image as a crowd gathers around. The video claims to show Delhi voters expressing their rejection of AAP in the Delhi 2025 elections. Let’s investigate the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows people blackening the faces of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena on billboards in the 05 February 2025, Delhi elections.

Fact: The video is actually from February 2024 and shows residents of Priya Camp in Kalkaji, Delhi protesting against prolonged waterlogging in their area. Frustrated by inaction, local women blackened the signboards of Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena. There is no evidence of such an incident taking place during the 2025 Delhi elections. Hence, the claim is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video led us to the official X handle of BJP Delhi, which had posted an extended version of the same video. In this extended clip, people are seen walking through a residential area flooded with water after defacing the billboard. The video was uploaded on 28 February 2024, with a caption stating that it shows the anger of the women of Shri Niwaspuri, a small Colony located in the southern part of Delhi, where dirty and stinking sewer water had entered their homes for the past 15 days. BJP’s post also claimed that despite repeated complaints, Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena had not visited the area. This confirms that the video dates back to February 2024.

Further research led us to an ETV Bharat report from 28 February 2024, which detailed the ongoing water logging crisis in Priya Camp, Kalkaji. According to the report, residents had been facing severe water stagnation in their homes for several days, with no resolution in sight. Frustrated by the inaction, local women protested by blackening the signboards of CM Arvind Kejriwal and MLA Atishi Marlena. Despite multiple complaints, authorities had not addressed the issue, prompting residents to hold the local leadership accountable for their suffering.

Additionally, the Delhi Assembly elections were held on 05 February 2025, with results awaited on 08 February. However, we could not find any credible reports or evidence of any incident involving the blackening of AAP leaders’ photos during the elections.

To sum up, a 2024 video of women expressing anger towards AAP leaders is shared as an incident that took place during the recent 2025 Delhi elections.
