2018 video of female students thrashing an eve-teaser in Uttar Pradesh shared now with a false communal narrative

A video is being shared on social media claiming it shows recent visuals of Hindu girls thrashing a Muslim man for allegedly trapping girls into love jihad. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Hindu girls thrashing a Muslim man who allegedly trapped girls with love jihad.

Fact: This video shows a 2018 incident of girl students thrashing an eve-teaser inside the Dharm Singh Saraswati Balika Inter College premises in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. The eve-teaser who was assaulted by girls in the video was Kapil Chauhan and there is no communal angle in the incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.  

On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, a video with similar visuals was found published on a YouTube channel in December 2018. This YouTube channel published this video with the description, “JAI HO: 3 girls thrash eve teaser after locking down college campus at Baghpat in UP. Girls do it”. ‘The Times of India’ published the same video on 10 December 2018 and reported it as the visuals of female students thrashing an eve-teaser inside school premises in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

When we searched for further details of the incident, we found an article published by ‘The Quint’ related to this incident. As per the report, a group of female students from the Dharm Singh Saraswati Balika Inter College in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat have thrashed a man with sticks for allegedly harassing them. Speaking to the ANI, then Baghpat SHO Sanjeev Kumar informed the accused name as Kapil Chauhan and said he was taken into custody on 09 December 2018.

Upon searching for further details, we found a tweet published by the Baghpat police related to this incident on 10 December 2018. The Baghpat police through the tweet informed that the accused was taken into custody by the Baraut police. The First Information Report (FIR) pertaining to this incident explicitly mentioned the name of the accused as Kapil. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shows an old incident in which there is no communal angle.

To sum it up, a 2018 video of female students thrashing an eve-teaser in Uttar Pradesh is shared now with a false communal narrative.
