A video depicting a cow brutally attacking a school-going child is being widely shared on social media. The post claims that the incident took place in the Saitpura area of Faridabad, Haryana. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Fact: This incident took place in the Arumbakkam area of Chennai on 09 August 2023. The girl is currently in stable condition. The owner of the cow has been arrested, and the cattle have been impounded. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

By conducting an internet search using relevant keywords, we discovered numerous news reports published by Indian Express, The Hindu, and The Times of India regarding this incident. According to these reports, a nine-year-old girl identified as J. Ayesha, a Class IV student from Gandhi Nagar in Choolaimedu, Chennai, sustained grievous injuries on 09 August 2023 when a cow gored her and threw her into the air while she was returning from school with her mother and her five-year-old brother on a narrow lane in MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam, Chennai.

The cow repeatedly attacked the girl and stopped only after onlookers chased it away. The injured girl was subsequently taken to a hospital. The owner of the cow, S. Vicky, 26, from Arumbakkam, was arrested on charges of endangering the lives of the public through negligent conduct. The cattle, including the calf that had attacked the child, have been impounded by authorities and tested for diseases.

Later in the evening, Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the girl, who is currently admitted to a private hospital in Aminjikarai. Subramanian stated that the doctors are providing the best possible treatment and that the girl’s condition is stable.

To sum it up, the incident of a cow attacking a school-going girl occurred in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and not in Faridabad, Haryana.
