The film titled Udaipur Files, based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal from Udaipur, was scheduled for release but has been halted by the Delhi High Court as of 10 July 2025. According to reports, Maulana Arshad Madani, President of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind filed a petition seeking a permanent ban on its release, arguing that the film promotes hate speech, targets a particular community, and could incite communal tension. In this context, a video (here, here and here) is going viral on social media that shows a massive Muslim rally with Islamic slogans, claimed to be a boycott protest against the Udaipur Files movie. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral video shows a massive Muslim rally held to protest against the movie Udaipur Files.

Fact: The video is not related to any protest against Udaipur Files. It shows a rally held in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, in April 2025, organised by the All Jamaath and District Ulemas Federation to oppose the Waqf Amendment Act. Hence the claim is FALSE.

To find the truth, we closely examined the banners used in the rally and noticed that they were in Tamil and mentioned a “Condemnation of the Waqf Bill” meeting held in Krishnagiri, a town in Tamil Nadu. A reverse image search on Google led us to similar videos of the same event (here, here and here), showing the identical stage setup and surrounding areas, including nearby hills, further confirming the location (Geo location).

All the similar videos were uploaded around the third week of April, shortly after the Waqf Amendment Bill was signed by the President on 05 April 2025. Upon closely examining the banner behind the public meeting, it was found to be written in Tamil. The translation reads: “Protest in Krishnagiri town demanding withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment (Theft) Act and condemning the Union Fascist BJP government.” (Google translation)

Further research led us to news reports of this protest, which included visuals matching the location seen in the viral video. According to the reports (here and here), on 14 april 2025, a massive protest was held in Krishnagiri by the All Jamaath and District Ulemas Federation against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. Led by IUML leader K.M. Kadher Moideen, the protestors called the Act unconstitutional and harmful to both minorities and Scheduled Castes and Tribes. They demanded that the law be scrapped and pledged to challenge it in court.

A side-by-side comparison of the viral video and footage from the Waqf Amendment protest rally, as seen in news reports, clearly confirms that both videos are from the same incident.

Additionally, we found a copy of the Delhi High Court’s judgment dated July 10, which stayed the release of the movie Udaipur Files. The Supreme Court has now agreed to hear a plea filed by the producers seeking to lift the stay on its release. While some rallies have been held in support of the film, such as those by Hindu organisations in Meerut, most of the opposition has come through legal avenues, including court petitions, sit-ins, and organised gatherings.

To sum up, visuals of a rally against the Waqf Amendment Bill are falsely shared as a Muslim protest against the film Udaipur Files.
