Video of fire accident at an oil field in Mexico is being shared as a drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields

A video related to an oil field’s explosions has been posted on facebook, claiming that it is the video of the recent explosions caused by drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields. Let’s analyze the extent of authenticity in this post.

Claim: Video of drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields happened on 14 September 2019.

Fact: The video is related to a fire accident that occurred in 2012 at an oil field in Mexico. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE

Saudi Arabia’s oil fields were attacked by drones on September 14, 2019 according to the report of ‘The  New York Times’.

When the video in this post was uploaded in ‘Invid’ plugin, many keyframes were obtained. When these were reverse image searched in ‘Yandex’, it was found that the video had been existing for many years in the internet. One search result showed that the incident in the video happened in Mexico. When searched on youtube based on the words in the video’s title, it was found that Mexico media organization ‘Imagen Noticias’ has aired this news video on December 11, 2012 based on the same video clip. From the description in the video, it can be understood that the fire accident occurred at ‘Pimex oil field’ in Mexico on September 18, 2012.

‘Reuters’ also reported the same information by publishing an article on September 19, 2012 which can be found here.

To sum it up, the video in the post is not related to the explosion at Saudi Arabia’s oil fields. The video is that of a fire accident happened at an oil field in Mexico in the year 2012.
