A video is being shared on social media with a claim that it shows drunk Ajay Devgan, a Bollywood film actor, getting beaten over the farmers’ protest issue in Delhi. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of actor Ajay Devgan getting beaten over the farmers’ protest issue in Delhi.
Fact: The video is in no way related to Ajay Devgan. The video shows a fight between two groups at Aerocity in New Delhi. The fight reportedly took place as one of the vehicles ‘slightly touched’ the other vehicle. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, the same video was found to be published by multiple news agencies. ‘India Today’ has published the video on their YouTube channel on 27 March 2021 with the description, – ‘Two groups got involved in the clash in Delhi’s Aerocity. The fight started immediately after a car crashed into another.’
Several media agencies have reported the police saying – “A brawl broke out between two groups in Aerocity when one of their vehicles ‘slightly touched’ another following which two men were arrested…The two parties involved did not file a complaint against each other. But we registered a case under sections of affray and other relevant sections for violation of COVID protocols”. The news reports on the incident can be read here, here, and here. The incident in the video has no connection with either Ajay Devgan or the farmers’ protest.
Also, India Today has reported that Ajay Devgan’s team has issued a clarification saying – “Post the promotion of Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior in January 2020, Actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgan has not visited Delhi. So, media reports of a brawl involving the superstar outside a Delhi pub are absolutely baseless and untrue”. On 29 March 2021, Ajay Devgan tweeted – “I’ve not traveled anywhere. All reports regarding me being in any brawl are baseless.”
To sum it up, a video of a fight between two groups in Aerocity (Delhi) is being falsely shared as actor Ajay Devgan getting beaten over the farmers’ protest issue.
