Let’s fact-check the veracity of the claim.

Claim: UP government will retire employees who have crossed the age of 50, instructions given to all departments.

Fact: Uttar Pradesh’s ADG has recently issued a directive seeking screening of personnel who have completed 50 years of age. Similar orders have been issued concerning all the government departments back in 2017 & 2018. However the recent directive is strictly confined to police department and no such recent orders are issued regarding other departments. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

The screenshot shared is in the post is of a news article published by Avadhbhumi news. The article claims that ‘UP government will retire employees who have crossed the age of 50, and instructions have been given to all departments in this regard’.

However, Google search with keywords yielded us multiple news articles (here & here) which reported UP ADG’s directive for screening of police personnel who have completed 50 years of age by 31 March 2021, in order to ‘weed out incompetent, undisciplined and corrupt cops across the state and give them compulsory retirement’.

It is true that the UP government has issued similar orders back in 2017 & 2018 seeking review of the employees above 50 in all departments and recommending retirement to those who were found incompetent in performing his/her duties (here & here). However, this recent directive is strictly confined to police department and there is no information about recent issuance of similar directives concerning other government departments as claimed in the post.

Hence, from the above information we can infer that UP government’s recent directive regarding screening of personnel who completed 50 years in police department is wrongly linked to all other government departments.

To sum it up, the UP government’s directive regarding screening of police personnel who have completed 50 years, is wrongly linked to other departments.
