A video is being shared on social media claiming it is the recent visuals of an elected Karnataka MLA threatening a police officer to just follow his instructions during his term in the constituency. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent video of an elected Karnataka MLA threatening a police officer at his house.

Fact: The video shared in the post shows Jaffar Hussain Meraj, an elected MLA from Nampally constituency in Telangana, speaking to the Police Superintendent in Jagtial over the row of Jagtial Rural Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar’s alleged assault of Muslim women for refusing a seat to his wife in a TSRTC bus. The man speaking to the police officer in the video is not a MLA from Karnataka and the video has nothing to do with the 2023 Karnataka Assembly Elections. Hence, the claim made in the post is False

When one observes the video carefully, one could see the text-“Jaffar Hussain Meraj Sb (MLA Nampally) in Jagtial” at the bottom of the video. Also, one could see the logo of All India Majlis-E-ittehadul muslimeen (AIMIM) at the top-right of the video. When we searched for the sources of the video using relevant keywords, a photo showing a similar visual in the video was found in an article published by the Deccan Chronicle news website on 11 May 2023. The description of the photo states, “MIM leaders meet Police Superintendent A. Bhaskar in his office regarding the attack on a student and her mother in an RTC bus”.

AIMIM’s official Facebook page published the same video on 11 May 2023, describing it as the visuals of AIMIM MLA and the AIMIM team in Jagtial.

As per the news reports, AIMIM Nampally MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj along with Jagtial district unit president Younus Nadeem and other members of the party visited the house of the postgraduate student who was allegedly assaulted by the Jagtial Rural SI A. Anil Kumar for refusing a seat to his wife in a TSRTC bus. Reporting the complete details of the incident, several other news websites published articles. They can be seen here and here.

AIMIM MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj tweeted the pictures of his conversation with the victim’s family in Jagtial. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the man speaking to a police officer in the video is not an MLA from Karnataka and that the video has nothing to do with the recently held 2023 Karnataka Assembly Elections.

To sum it up, an unrelated video from Telangana is shared as the recent visuals of an elected MLA threatening a police officer in Karnataka.
