A video (here, here & here) showing a young woman being mercilessly beaten by a man is widely circulating on social media, with the claim that a Muslim man is thrashing his Hindu girlfriend in a foreign country. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Fact: The incident occurred in July 2021 in Krasnodar, Russia. The woman in the video is a member of the Crimean Gypsy community that practices Islam. While she was attempting to elope with her Ukrainian boyfriend, her family members assaulted her, accusing her of stealing money. Therefore, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to several Russian media reports (here, here & here) covering the incident. According to these sources, the event occurred in July 2021 in the Russian city of Krasnodar. The woman, a member of the Crimean Gypsy community that practices Islam, attempted to elope with her Ukrainian boyfriend. However, with the help of the police, her family located her and assaulted her, accusing her of stealing money while trying to elope.
One of the media reports featured a screenshot from the Instagram account ‘@insta.diva.shop,’ where the caption described the woman as a close friend and expressed hope that law enforcement would take action against the assault. The account belonged to a woman named Angelina from Russia. In 2022, the fact-checking website BOOM reached out to Angelina, who confirmed that she was indeed a close friend of the victim. Angelina clarified that both the woman and her boyfriend were Crimean Gypsies, sharing the same religion, Islam, and the same ethnic background.
Angelina further explained that the woman’s brother had assaulted her because she had eloped with a boy whose family had been in a long-standing feud with hers. She also confirmed that the video was from Russia. We couldn’t find any reports mentioning the victim’s name or her family members.
To sum up, an old unrelated video from Russia is being shared a Muslim man thrashing his Hindu Girlfriend.
