Unrelated old video from Syria shared as visuals of a Mosque calling for Jihad amidst violence in Tripura

 A video is being shared on social media claiming it as recent visuals of a Mosque in Tripura calling people for jihad (holy war) to combat the violence against the Muslims. In the wake of the recent communal violence in Tripura, this video is being shared widely on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a Mosque calling for Jihad to combat the violence against Muslims in Tripura.

Fact: The video shared in the post shows old visuals of Mosques in Idlib declaring Jihad against the Turkish army in February 2020. The video shared in the post is old and not related to the recent communal violence in Tripura. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, a similar video was found posted by a YouTube user on 07 February 2020. This YouTube channel reported it as the visuals of a Mosque in Idlib calling for Jihad (holy war). When we searched for reliable sources using these keywords, a similar video was found in an article published by the Turkish news website ‘Yeniakit’ website on 07 February 2020. This article was published with the title, “Call to Syrians from mosques: Let’s go to jihad, young people, to jihad”.

A journalist named Hasan Sivri had tweeted the same video on 07 February 2020. Sharing the video, Hasan Sivri reported that Mosques under the control of opposition in Idlib have called on people for Jihad to fight against the Turkish army convoy marching towards the depths of Idlib. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is old and not related to the recent communal violence in Tripura.
