Unrelated old video from China shared as the visuals of a Muslim man brutally assaulting a woman in Spain

A video is being shared on social media claiming that it shows recent visuals of a Muslim immigrant brutally assaulting a female Kafir in Spain. The video shows a man brutally punching and kicking a woman on a street, and later dragging her out of the surveillance cameras. The post claims that the Muslim man had assaulted her and later, raped the victim.  Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a Muslim immigrant brutally assaulting a woman in Spain.

Fact: The video shows an old incident that took place on a street in the Ganjingzi district in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China. In June 2019, a man was caught on surveillance cameras sexually assaulting a woman in Dalian. The accused assaulted the victim in an inebriated state after having an argument with his girlfriend. The news media reports mentioned the accused’s surname as Wang, and it is nowhere reported that he was a Muslim. The video shared in the post is old, has no communal angle and has nothing to do with Spain. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a screengrab of the video was found in an article published by the People’s Daily Online news website on 26 June 2019. The news site reported it is the visuals of a man brutally assaulting a woman in Dalian, a city located in the northeastern Liaoning Province of China.

When we searched for further sources, we found the complete details in an article published by the South China Morning Post in June 2019. According to the report, on 22 June 2019, a 31-year-old man, whose surname was Wang, was captured on surveillance cameras engaging in a severe assault on a woman on a street located in the Ganjingzi district of Dalian. Dalian police apprehended the perpetrator on 25 June 2019, three days after the incident occurred.

According to the Dalian police, Wang sexually assaulted the victim under the influence of alcohol following an argument with his girlfriend. The victim reportedly called the police after the attack and got treatment in a hospital. Reporting the complete details of the incident, several other news agencies have also reported this incident. They can be seen here, here, and here. Not even a single news report mentioned that the accused was a Muslim. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is old and from China, not from Spain.

To sum it up, a 2019 video from China is shared as the visuals of a Muslim man brutally assaulting a woman in Spain.
