A viral video (here, here, and here) showing a partition separating burqa-clad girls from boys in a classroom is being widely shared on social media with the claim that it shows a classroom in Kerala. In this article, we fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of this post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows visuals of a classroom in Kerala where burqa-clad girls are separated from boys by a partition wall.

Fact: This viral video showing a partition separating burqa-clad girls from boys in a classroom is not from Kerala, but from Maharashtra. The video is from a coaching institute named ‘MOS Academy’ in Nanded, Maharashtra. Aamer, the Director of MOS Academy, has confirmed that the video was recorded at their institute in Nanded, Maharashtra. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To learn more about the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the clip. This search led us to the same video (archived link) uploaded on Instagram by an account named @aamersrs_mos_academy on 10 October 2025, with the caption: “Balance your life with Deen and Duniya — that’s the formula for real success. #teaching #education #mosacademy #nanded #islamic #deen #duniya #aakhira #coaching.”

The Instagram bio of ‘Aamer Srs’ identifies him as the Director of MOS Academy, Nanded. The same video was also shared (archived link) on Facebook by ‘Aamer Srs’ on the same date, with the same caption. Other videos on this Instagram and Facebook page show similar visuals of classrooms with a low partition separating girls and boys.

We found that MOS Academy is a coaching institute in Nanded, Maharashtra, which offers coaching for NEET, MHT-CET, JEE, and other exams. We then contacted Aamer, the Director of MOS Academy, who confirmed to Factly that the video was recorded at their institute in Nanded, Maharashtra, and not in Kerala.

Recently, a controversy erupted after male and female participants were separated by a sheet of cloth at an event organised by a religious youth forum named Wisdom Islamic Students Organisation (WISO) in Kerala. The event was a curtain-raiser for the Professional Students Global Conference (ProfCon), an annual event conducted by WISO, scheduled to be held in Mangaluru this year. According to the organisation’s social media page, a campus debate organised by its Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) unit was held at a Community Hall near CUSAT on 15 September 2025. Pictures shared on the Instagram page ‘wisdom_cusat’ showed a yellow cloth separating male participants from female participants, who were seated in the last rows of the hall. Various individuals and organisations, including the Kerala state unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), protested against the event, alleging gender segregation on campus. Following this, CUSAT filed a police complaint against an online portal and a social media user for spreading misinformation. The university also issued a press statement dismissing any links with the event and clarified that no event by the name ‘ProfCon’ was organised by CUSAT within or outside its campus (here, here, and here).

To sum it up, this viral video showing a low partition separating burqa-clad girls from boys in a classroom is not from Kerala, but from Maharashtra.
