A social media post accompanying a selfie of a man, a TTE in the railways with another man, both moving on two different trains is being shared with a claim that the image shows a father (guard in railways) and son (TTE). The image is being shared as if both the father & son duo work in the Indian Railways.  Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Selfie of a father and son working in the Indian Railways.

Fact: It is true that the viral selfie shows a father and son working for railways, however, they are from Bangladesh, and they work for the Bangladesh Railways. On the TTE badge worn by the son, it is clearly mentioned as ‘Bangladesh Railways’. Further, multiple Bangladeshi news articles reported the same image back in 2019 as a father & son working for the Bangladeshi Railways. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

While it is true that the men in the viral selfie are father and son, however, they are not from India but Bangladesh. A reverse image search of the viral photo led us to a tweet that has a slightly better quality image of the selfie. Upon close observation, we can spot ‘Bangladesh Railways’ written on the badge that the man with goggles is wearing. Thus, this indicates that the man with the badge does not work for the Indian Railways.

Further search yielded a few Bangladeshi news reports which reported the same image (here & here). These articles date back to 2019 and as per these articles, the men in the selfie are indeed father & son, and they both work for the Bangladesh Railways. The son, Wasibur Rahman works as a TTE, and his father works as a guard. The image was captured by the son when they both came across at the Fulbury railway station.

Further, we accessed the Facebook profile of  Wasibur Rahman, through which we found that he shared the same image in May 2019. Thus, all these establish that the image is not from India but Bangladesh.

To sum it up, this viral selfie shows father and son working for railways in Bangladesh, not India.
