Fact: The video shared in the post is a clipped one. Rahul Gandhi while addressing a recent public rally at Panipat in Haryana, mentioned India’s population as 140 crore rupees, but immediately corrected his mistake and said India’s population is 140 crore people. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
When we searched for this video using relevant keywords on the internet, we found that several BJP leaders have tweeted the same video clip recently mocking Rahul Gandhi. Responding to one such tweet from BJP’s National Information Technology incharge Amit Malviya, Indian National Congress member Rahul Kajal tweeted an extended version of the video clip, in which Rahul Gandhi was seen immediately correcting his mistake, and mentioning India’s population as 140 crore people.
When we searched for further sources, we found that the video clips show Rahul Gandhi’s speech at a public rally conducted recently at Panipat in Haryana. The Indian National Congress YouTube channel published the full video of Rahul Gandhi’s speech at the Panipat rally. From 1:45 minutes of the video, Rahul Gandhi was seen saying- ” Now I want to speak about the economic situation of the country. India is a country with a population of 140 crore rupees…140 crore people.” Further, Rahul Gandhi said, “ In today’s India, the amount of money that was there with half of India’s population was there with the top 100 richest persons in the country.” Rahul Gandhi did mention India’s population in rupees at first, but he immediately corrected his mistake and said India’s population is 140 crore people. The video shared in the post clipped the portion of Rahul Gandhi correcting his mistake.
