A video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) claiming to show a person in Britain confronting Prime Minister Keir Starmer and asking him to leave his pub, accusing him of failing to do his job. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a person in Britain confronting Prime Minister Keir Starmer and asking him to leave his pub, accusing him of failing to do his job.

Fact: The video does not show Prime Minister Keir Starmer being confronted recently. It is from April 2021, when Starmer was Leader of the Opposition, not the British Prime Minister. The incident occurred at The Raven pub in Bath, UK, where a co-owner, Rod Humphries, asked Starmer to leave during his election campaign visit, citing dissatisfaction with the Labour Party’s stance on COVID-19 lockdown measures. At the time, Boris Johnson was the British Prime Minister. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

We observed that the viral video has a watermark of @StephenSumner15 at the bottom-right corner. Taking this as a cue, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found an X post dated 19 April 2021 by @StephenSumner15 featuring an extended version of the same video. This shows that the video is not recent, but at least four and a half years old. Notably, the incident occurred in April 2021, when the British Prime Minister was Boris Johnson, not Keir Starmer, who became Prime Minister in July 2024.

We also found multiple media reports covering the incident. According to these reports (here, here, and here), in April 2021, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer was visiting Bath, UK, as part of his election campaign when he entered The Raven pub. During the visit, he encountered Rod Humphries, a co-owner and landlord of the pub, who was unhappy with the Labour Party’s response to the government’s COVID-19 lockdown measures and asked Starmer to leave the pub. Following the incident, Humphries spoke to the media and said, “I think he’s completely failed as leader of the opposition.” The matter later prompted the pub’s other co-owner, Tim Perry, to issue an apology to the Labour Party.

To sum up, this video of Keir Starmer being asked to leave a pub is from 2021, when he was Leader of the Opposition, not the British Prime Minister.
