Claim: The CCTV video shows an illegal Bangladeshi man stealing a bicycle from a Hindu businessman’s home in India.

Fact: The video is not from India but from Paraguay. Paraguayan news outlets reported that the footage shows a thief stealing a bicycle in the Bella Vista area of Barrio Jara, Asunción. Hence, the claim is False.

To verify the claim, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to a Paraguayan Facebook page named Sucesos Paraguay Noticias. The page had uploaded the same video, stating that the incident took place in the Jara neighbourhoods of Asunción, Paraguay.

Further research led us to the same video posted on the Instagram handle of the Paraguayan news channel SNT Paraguay. They also confirmed that the footage is from Paraguay. According to their report, CCTV cameras in the Bella Vista area of Barrio Jara captured the moment when a barefoot man climbed over a wall lined with sharp wire to rob a house. Despite the barrier, he managed to get inside and steal a bicycle, as seen in the video.

Additionally, we found that several other news outlets also reported the same video, confirming that it originated in Paraguay (here and here). These pieces of evidence clearly indicate that the video has no connection to Bangladesh or India. Further, there are no reports of such an incident in India.

To sum up, this video of a theft in Paraguay is being falsely shared as that of an incident involving an illegal Bangladeshi in India.
